Low country dance...

 








Dance in low country highly ritualistic .this from of dance is performed to appease abil spirits wich cause sickness an is thus called "devil dance " . The dances wear masks depicting many characters varid in forms of bird ,demons , reptiles etc.there are 18 main dances related to pahatharara style known as the 18sanniya held to exorcise 18 types of diseases from the human body. The low country dances of the southern plains mostly spread in coastal areas such as galle , mathra ,hambanthota . It has to contents of devil dance and beity dance . Dances in low country are highly ritualistic. this From of dance is performed to appease evil spirits wich causes sickness and thus called " devil dance ".







The dancer wear masks depicting many characters varied in froms of bird , demons reptiles , etc. Deity dancers are used to get the help of variety of gods and goddesses , to appease avil spirits . There are dances related to the pahatharara  (low country ) style known as 18sanniya held to exorciae  18 types of diseases from the human body.
