Medicinal Plants ...
From ancient times the medicines used for human consumption were made from plants . Many of the traditional medicine methods used in many parts of the world have been identified as herbal medicine based methods . According to Ayurvedic medicine , about 20,000 species of plants are used in the production of medicines worldwide and out 3350 plant species in sri lanka, 1442 species are considered as medicinal plants . Let us now look at some of the herbs that are used in medicine .

Botanical name - Aloe Barbadensis Mill
Aloe vera has become very popular as cosmetic. It has been identified as a perennial plant with short stems and flat stems. There is on vein in the leaves here. The leaves are official green and have white spots. The leaves have continuous spines on both sides. These flowers during the dry season. Although these are found especially in the dry zone, they can be grown in any part of sri lanka.

- Aloe vera is used for burns.
- Aloe vera powder is mixed with aloe vera powder and applied to the eyes and tears.
- Aloe vera is also used for pain under the eyes.
- Used To make hair shampoo .

Botanical name - Solanuma virginianum
It has been used as a medicine for a long time and is a highly imported drug. The plant has sharp spine on the leaves and in almost every part. The flowering of this plant takes place throughout the year. Lake very well in the lowland dry zone of sri lanka. The whole herb here is medicinal .
Cases of used as a drug...
- Cough is given to boil and drink with cardamom leaves
- If urination is slow. These are boiled and given to drink.
- For indigestion and vomiting in the stomach , curry leaf juice is given to drink
- For high blood pressure , curry juice is mixed with other medicines and given to drink .
- Used for blisters on the skin.
- For new wounds and abrasions .
- Used to cure leprosy , worms and pneumonia .
