National Flag

                     National  flag 



       The National flag is the main symbol of a country 's identity to the world . This is based on the ancient national flag in sri lanka. The national flag symbolizes the historical  background , pride and independence of the national and the motherland  and the unity and equality of the people of sri lanka. The national  flag and the national anthem are integral part of the constitution of the democratic and sooalist republic of sri lanka. The national flag is rectangular .

The idea behind the colours , ports , and symbols of the national flag......


1.The yellow lion 

              Demonstrates the sinhala nation , the discipline courage , pride leadership and fairness of the sinhalese people.

2. The yellow  sword 

                Righteous , ruling the country legally and justly and standing up for the security of the land.

3. The Four Bopaths 

                  The great virtue of respecting all religions  , including  the four brahma chiharas  ,  metta , karuna , muditha and upekkha.

4.Dark Red / Maroon part

                    Representation of the jich blood of all sri lankans and the ancient sinhala royal flag.

5. The two green / green and orange / copper       vertical bars 

                       Representing all minorities such as Tamil , Muslim , Burgher , Malay , ja , chathu tamil.

6.Chu yellow ribbon of equal width

                        All parts of the national flag  are tide together . Unity among all nations. Explain peace , wisdom and  mutual understanding .



How to use the National flag 


 1. The national flag should never be held              flag or horizontally to the ground and              should  always  be carried with the baton        upright. 


2. When the national flag is carried in a              procession with different flags,it should          be on the right side of the procession and        if there are other flag , the national flag          should be brought in the middle of the            procession.


3. The national flag  should not be lowered         in the slightest for anything or anyone.


4. The national flag  should  never be                     lowered to the ground .


5. When the national flag is hoisted , one             should be alert and all should stand up.


6. The national anthem should be played or        sung as soon as the national flag is hoisted      and no other musical instrument should        be played.


7. No damaged or defaced national flag shall      be displayed and no other flags , banners        or decorations shall be displayed above          the national flag.


8. The national  flag can never be used as a        blanket or as a covering at state / military      funerals .


9. No mark , emblem , word or image shall          be placed on the National flag except in          the case of a presidential color award to          the army regiments under the                            presidential order .


10. Unauthorized use of any representation          of the national flag is also prohibited .
